As I was in SoS, I could try out the game. I don't have the first SASAR game so I can't really make a comparison.
i can say, I was genuine.y impressed. Everything seemed to be responsive and worked preety well. The ground, flying and boat controls felt natural and I could instantly race without any problems. I haven't notice any framerate issues and the charactrs/environent looked colorful and nice.

Superstar "mode" didn't seem to work so can't say about that. I think you can get through coins but also through item hits. What annoyed me is the item chance quota. I mostly got the three snowball item on all positions. I hope this gets a bit tweaked.

So in all, I think it won't disappoint and for me it's a must buy.
Wasn't the demo it's pre-alpha build? That must explains the weird item choices.

I wanted to be careful and just said beta as a synonym for prototype :P
I don't think it's Pre-Alpha, because it's very functional so it's more alpha.

The cover page is alright... but I do think they should have filled the cover with more characters instead of filling it with Sonic in different phases of his car transforming.

They probably want to keep NiGHTS/Reala (who are vehicles remember) a secret so putting them on the cover isn't a good thing. I was think maybe one of the new racers for different versions.
