yep, and they still managed to make it even better

I would love for Matsuno to like, write FFXII as he intended as a novel or something, similar to what Tomino did for Gundam.

Sure I've said it before on here but FF 12 was made with 720p textures, downscaled to 576/480p.

Theres some screenshots of the game running the uncompressed textures & the only thing that looks off is the menus with their blurry text but that's it.

I played it on my HDTV and the game looked horrible Aliased...but most HDTV does that to older games.

PS2 will only output at 576p at best, needs to be done in an emulator for it to look good as seen here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnHE6ZjvW_k

Edit: Seems theres 4 PS2 games that will run @ HD resolutions natively. The NTSC U/J versions of Gran Turismo 4 can run at 1080i.

But that is upscaling, on an emulator probably, the best thing you can get out of the PS2 is with a VGA adaptor, and that would be as you said 576p at most. You might get away with 480p
And very few games support VGA (unless you have a modchip that forces it), and even then the games itself need to have high res textures, which is unlikely as it is PS2. So only emulators for now :P

Upscaled to 1080p with the uncompressed textures which are about 720p. Vid description doesn't give a good overview of how it works.
