Individual

The Master Returns

This is the dawn of Individual in its third year, now with a couple themed months... How to begin? With the OGs that put SEGA music on the map. And we begin with their master: Tohru Nakabayashi.

This post is all about the next episode of Individual, with game examples, request advice, sources to learn about more eligible works, and a couple times the show will be going LiVE.

The third season/series/year (will I ever settle on a term?) of Individual brings in themed months, which I've never done before. Of the 6 months the show will run, 3 of them will focus on individuals with a major theme in common. This time, it's the mid 80's, before there was a SEGA Sound Team. There was just programmers who could make music, like Hiro, Tokuhiko Uwabo, Katsuhiro Hayashi, and the first to get the spotlight, Tohru Nakabayashi.

Tohru Nakabayashi was the most prolfic arcade sound designer in the mid 80's and was busy with until the early 90's. This episode will focus on the 1984~1988 period, from his beginning on SEGA SG-1000 and SEGA SYSTEM 1, covering his prominence on SEGA SYSTEM 16 until SCRAMBLE SPIRITS debuts on SEGA SYSTEM 24. Hear all of that chronicle with talks and music of Doki Doki Penguin Land, Alien Syndrome, Altered Beast and more!

You can send in your requests, I've got enough space for about 6 of them. Feel free to request any song from a project Nakabayashi has worked on or any remix of a song composed by him. You can send me your requests via Discord (I'll be listed in RadioSEGA's Discord) or Twitter (this is me). I might be recording the episode on Tuesday, so please send in your requests before then even if I go LiVE (I still like to edit together some sick transitions and can't really do that in the moment)!

If you're not sure what songs are eligible and don't mind mild spoilers, feel free to check out these sites:

If you're wondering when this show airs, it's on Wednesdays (this time the 7th) and airs at:
6:00 PM - United Kingdom Time (most RadioSEGA folks)
7:00 PM - Central European Time (some others) (me, I'm living in 7:00 PM territory)
and lasts for somewhere around 2 hours!
