Saturday Night SEGA

SEGATHON 2 Announced!

Last year, RadioSEGA's 24 Hour SEGATHON raised over £750 for BBC's Children in Need. This year, we're wanting to do even better!

It's safe to say that last year's SEGATHON was a pretty big success. For the first time ever on RadioSEGA we held a 24 hour show, hosted by myself and a myriad of co-hosts, all in honour of BBC's Children in Need appeal. Pretty much immediately after the show, I'd decided that it was a nice one-off, and that I could never go through it again.

The more I thought about it, though, the more I realised that I actually enjoyed doing it. It had its surreal moments, such as being aware of people leaving our IRC room in the evening and then watching them filter back in the morning, and the realisation that yes, you have been broadcasting for 22 and a bit hours, and then realising that the next 90 minutes are the longest you've ever had. Still, it was fun. I enjoyed it, our listeners enjoyed it, and I'm sure the BBC will have liked the fact that a little video game radio station passed them over £800 in donations.

So. With all of this in mind, I've decided to put myself through it all over again. SEGATHON 2 (previously titled SEGATHON 2012) will be tenatively held on Saturday 3rd November from 10pm UK Time, running all the way through to Sunday 4th November. Just like last year, we're talking an uninterrupted 24 hour broadcast, and just like last year, we'll be raising money for BBC's Children in Need. However, last year is now a benchmark. We raised over £750, and we'd be mad if we weren't aiming a little higher. I'm not going to put an official minimum total down, but personally I'd love for us to hit four figures.

There's also a few things I'd like to do on my end. I'd like to try and rope some co-hosts in again, and there's also a discussion I'd like to have with SEGA regarding possible promotion/prize giving, but that can wait for the time being. We did so well last year with not a lot of promotion, and with better planning we can do so much better.

Again, the date is tentative, and is subject to change. Hopefully it'll be locked down within the next three weeks. The main news is this - SEGATHON is back!

The Segathon! I don't think I'd last the entire 24 hours though, but I would definitely hang around for most of it :D
